Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies International Center for Central Asian Research and Education

In May 2005, the University of Tsukuba conducted academic exchange agreements with Tashkent State Institute of Oriental Studies in Uzbekistan. The main aim of this center is three-fold.

The first is to build a network of knowledge by means of ongoing discussions and exchanges which will bring Central Asian and Japanese researchers together through their studies of one another’s regions, so that potential linguistic and cultural conflicts can be dissipated at the academic level.

The second is dynamic development of academic and educational activities, which will contribute to the development of Japanese and Central Asian research, not only in Uzbekistan but also in the region as a whole, so that ongoing academic benefits may accrue.

The third is to promote diversified research into Japan and Japanese language education in Uzbekistan and throughout Central Asia, and to raise the standard of research in this area.
